The Prodigal Daughter

Grace Adams, who attended Alpha at the invitation of her pastor, shares her story with us.

What was your life like before you attended Alpha?

It was confusing.  I wanted to do things my way, not God's way, even though I was a "born again Christian".  I let my problems control me and I strayed away from God and the call over my life. I forgot that I need to trust God fully and I found myself in places and situations where I felt lost in myself.  Even though I was still regularly attending church, I didn't know how to get back to where I need to be.

How did you find out about Alpha?

I was introduced to Alpha by my pastor.

What was your experience on Alpha?

When I started Alpha I found people accepted me and gave me love beyond what I ever knew. I felt like the son that left his father's house and when I returned they gave me a feast and welcomed me back.

How has your experience affected you?

I learned no matter how well you know the word of God, if you don't live and practice what it says, it means nothing. I started to live by the word and started praying again.  Alpha helped me to renew the joy of my salvation and renew Christ's spirit within me.

At first I thought Alpha was more for new Christians, but it is for everyone whether you are a pastor, a believer or not.

I believed before, but Alpha gave me the opportunity of a lifetime: to experience a relationship with the Holy Spirit.  I am so grateful for that. I live and move by truth, joy and peace that passes all human understanding and it truly guides my heart and mind. I have a new family - more brothers and sisters that love me. They care and always pray for me: what more could I ask for?

My life after Alpha is so amazing - I just want to go out and tell the world of what God has done in my life.  I was destined for hell, even though I was in church attending regularly. Today I work by faith not by sight.  God is my everything, I don't have to worry about anything. Doors are opening - I'm walking in favour with miracles wherever I go.

God is good, and I am so grateful to him for never giving up on me, I got a second chance and now Jeremiah 29:11 has a personal meaning for me  "I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, to give you a hope and a future".
