In March the global leadership of Alpha held their annual meeting in Cape Town. The team are made up of Alpha leaders from around the globe including North America, Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia. Led by Mathew Neville, Alpha's Global CEO, the team spent three days looking at global strategy and what it means to move from being an International organisation to functioning as a Global organisation where much more decision-making and innovation happens at a Regional (eg. Africa) and National (eg. South Africa) level. Key focuses included building capacity at Regional level, training and resourcing the local church, and producing a four year plan.
At the heart of our strategy is to become ever more true to our identity as a mission-driven organisation. This means that Alpha as an organisation is unashamedly focussed on equipping and serving the local church in its mission to help people discover and develop a relationship with Jesus. We are completely committed to being through the church, by the church and for the local church.
We are also utterly committed to the unity of the Church, which is intrinsically linked to the mission of the church. Jesus put it very clearly when he prayed: "...that all of them may be one... so that the world may believe that you have sent me." (John 17:20-23)
Finally we follow God's example of reckless love in giving the best, His Son Jesus, so completely and generously for us. We therefore believe that the church deserves the best and we are called to give it all away at no cost. How can we put a price on the Gospel?!
Alpha South Africa is on a journey to ensure that every church in South Africa has access to Alpha in a way that is relevant within its local context.
