I was saved at the age of 8 years old and taught Sunday school at the age of 10. I have been in ministry for many years as well as attended 5 years of Bible school. We used to attend Bethal Christian Ministries, in Bothasig. Due to our move from Parrow to Retreat we were unable to attend due to the distance and my husband’s working hours. My sister-in-law Brenda invited us to her celebration dinner. That is how we became part of the next Alpha group.
On entering this Alpha group I was very prejudiced, “What can the Anglican people teach me?”. I was filled with spiritual pride (Lord forgive me). Hey, I’ve been to bible school!! I was also very hurt, broken and disappointed. (My mom passed away in 2016. It was a very difficult time for me as she meant much more to me than just being my Mom) I came just to please my husband and to meet new people. I love people.
Wow, the first week I attended I was blown away by the love of the group I found myself in. Grace was my portion. I received total love and acceptance. I met new friends and I formed a family. Over the next 4 weeks my prejudice was rapidly disappearing.
The week-end away was tremendous. I was totally impressed by the place we stayed at. The beach is my favourite place. The only fear I had was sharing a room with so many females as I am a very private person!
BUT God helped me and I overcame that fear. During the worship the Holy Spirit downpour was indescribable. I love being in the presence of the Holy Spirit.
In that time I was filled by the Holy Spirit with a new, different ministry – to reach people. Sister Vrede prayed for me. I felt like dancing due to what was happening in me with the soaking of the Holy Spirit.
My Alpha journey was exhilarating, invigorating, uplifting and restoring. During the healing service I was also prayed over and one of the intercessors saw a dove above my head. I just felt such peace and since then I was able to deal with the graduation of my mom to the presence of Abba Father.
I always thought I was Kingdom minded, until I attended Alpha at St Martins. I realised just how small I allowed my Kingdom thinking to be. No matter how long you have been saved or how much you know the Bible, if you do not have love and compassion for people it all means NOTHING. God’s heartbeat is PEOPLE. ALL PEOPLE… even Anglicans!! (laugh).
I am healed, mended and revitalised. I’m ready for the next part of my amazing journey filled with love, hope, faith and people. As a couple we have started a connect group at our home. I have also been approached to assist with a Ladies Ministry in Mitchell’s Plain. If you feel you know it all, been saved for many years – join an Alpha group and you will discover that passion you felt the first time you met Jesus. I personally think everyone needs an Alpha experience now and again….. Just to remind us why we are here. TO REACH PEOPLE FOR THE KINGDOM OF GOD!!
Thank you to my new found family at St Martins, I love and appreciate the part you have played in my life and showing so much love and concern for people. You are amazing. The blessing of the Lord rest upon you and empower you as you continue the good work.
